Moelven to build pellet plant in Sokna for nkr270m

03.09.2018 −

Moelven is investing nkr270m (around €27m) in the construction of a pellet and power plant at the Soknabruket sawmill in Norway. The project marks the Group's first entry into pellet production. According to the press release issued on 29 August by Moelven, the total production capacity installed in Norway is expected to double after the new plant is scheduled to go into operation at the beginning of 2020. However, no concrete capacity figure or machine suppliers were given. The project is supported with nkr66m by the Norwegian state agency Enova, which is to promote the transition in the energy sector from oil and gas production, which has been dominant in Norway up to now, to the use of sustainably available energy sources.

The pellet plant, in which eight to ten new jobs will be created, will process wood chips from the Soknabruket sawmill, which is designed for a production capacity of 160,000 m³ of softwood lumber per year. The energy and heat generated in the power plant will also be used in parts in the sawmill and pellet plant during production.
