German foreign trade in OSB picks up slightly

14.09.2017 −

German OSB exports staged a strong recovery in the second quarter; imports were only marginally higher than the same stretch last year, though. Both imports and exports had fallen in the first quarter, although not as much as preliminary figures issued by the German Federal Statistical Office had originally indicated. Final data showed that exports had softened 2% to 133,181 m³, while imports dropped 6% to 174,578 m³ compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year. Preliminary figures had shown downturns of 3% and 13% respectively.

According to preliminary information, the second quarter ended with an 8% rise in exports to 140,031 m³. This growth was primarily spurred by soaring shipments to Chile of 10,115 m³. On the other hand, only minor changes occurred on the biggest sales markets. Germany’s OSB imports edged almost 1% higher to 193,573 m³ compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year. Shipments from the Czech Republic were up a good 2% at 88,888 m³. Imports from the next largest destinations were roughly the same as in the second quarter of 2016.
