Arauco's largest plywood mill in Nueva Aldea was destroyed by fire at the beginning of January. The log yard at the site as well as parts of the company's radiata pine plywood plantations did also burn down. Arauco also operates a pulp mill, a sawmill and a biomass power plant in Nueva Aldea, which according to the company were not affected by the fire. The reason behind the plywood-mill fire was a forest fire that got out of control.
