North American particleboard and MDF/HDF markets experienced a strong downturn in the fourth quarter of 2015. Statistics from the Composite Panels Association (CPA) show that particleboard sales were 9% lower than in the third quarter and 1% lower than the previous year’s figure at 1.393m m³. MDF/HDF sales dropped 5% compared with the third quarter, but were 5% higher than the previous year at 948,000 m³. Particleboard and MDF/HDF sales had fared much better in the first half of the year, in particular. Sales figures had surged in the first and second quarters compared with both the previous quarter and the same quarter one year earlier. The third quarter then ushered in a minor downturn that continued up until the year’s end. Sales figures had risen at least compared with the previous year, but did not quite replicate the second quarter’s level. However, the fourth quarter saw downturns for the most part.
