Mestä commences construction of Rauma sawmill

13.08.2020 −

In the second quarter, Metsä Group gave the green light for construction of the new sawmill in Rauma. After completion of preparatory excavation work, which has been ongoing since May, the company plans to commence building construction in August. Structural engineering work is expected to be completed in September 2021. The first equipment is to be delivered and installed from as early as the beginning of 2021. Commissioning of the sawmill is expected in the third quarter of 2022. This sequence, which the company has presented in its current half-year report, essentially corresponds to the original schedule. Plans to construct the mill, which is geared towards around 750,000m³ pine lumber annually, were announced by Mestä in May 2019; the final decision regarding the €200m investment was made at the beginning of 2020. In March and April, the first agreements regarding important mill components were concluded with machinery manufacturers.
