Harvesting of damaged wood has determined felling

In Germany, a significantly higher amount of damaged wood than in 2017 led to a 20.3 % increase in timber felling to 64.362m m³ last year. According to the " Timber felling statistics 2017" published by the Federal Statistical Office on 15 April, the volume of damaged timber totalled 31.664m m³ and was thus more than two and a half times as high as in the previous year. The share of damaged wood in total logging thus rose from 23% to 49%.
