Bid Group closing down Canal Flats facility

15.05.2020 −

The Canadian sawmill fitter BID Group of Companies (Bid Group) is permanently closing down its production facility in Canal Flats, British Columbia. The company’s CEO and president, Alistair Cook, said the action is due to the effects of the corona pandemic and the measures it entails. Owing to the weakening demand on the timber markets, numerous customers in the North American sawmilling industry have not only reduced their output but have also deferred until further notice the investment measures they had scheduled for 2020/2021. Approximately 20 employees are affected by the closure of Canal Flats, which is scheduled for completion in May.

After the closure of Canal Flats, Bid Group will still operate a total of 15 branches, 8 of them in Canada and seven in the USA, with a total of around 1,500 employees. The spectrum of products ranges for log yards and sawmill equipment to planing works through to power supply systems including optimisation and control systems.
