Sierra Pacific Industries aiming to takeover Seneca

Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) wants to further strengthen its position in the US sawmilling industry by taking over Seneca Sawmill Company including its subsidiaries. As reported by the two companies on 5 August, the deal is still subject to an ongoing due-diligence process and the usual official approvals. The sales is expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter. No details were given concerning the purchase prices.

Taking over Seneca would further enlarge SPI’s production capacity and also increase its access to additional forest resources. Seneca Sawmill Company is a private company owned and run by Becky, Kathy, and Jody Jones. The company currently has three sawmills in Oregon with a combined annual capacity of 650m bdft. 175,000 acres, roughly 71,000 ha, of forest is managed through Seneca Jones Timber Company. Seneca Sustainable Energy operates a biomass-fired power station on a residual-wood and forest-residues basis with an output of 19.8 MWel.
