Sawlog prices still rising slightly in Austria

Riding on a wave of brisk demand, softwood-sawlogs prices in Austria rose slightly in February 2024 as well.

According to the Austrian Chambers of Agriculture (Landwirtschaftskammer Österreich - LWK), which is based in Vienna, prices went up by €4-5. Prices given for L 2b+ B/C long roundwood in new contracts span a range of €105-120/m³, and €85-113/m³ for sections.

Selling pine in the north of the country appears to be better than in the south. An overhang still exists in demand for larch. The damaged wood that has arisen in some regions can be sold easily. It is generally being removed quickly. Exceptions are regions where thaw-period barriers or weight restrictions are already in place due to the weather conditions.
