Oak price climbs to new record level in Poland

In sales through the Internet platform e-drewno organised by the Polish state forest administration Lasy Panstwowe, the price for oak sawlogs rose in December to an average of PLN1,713/m³ (roughly equivalent to around €365/m³) and thereby reached a new peak. Starting from the low reached in February, the price went up in several stages. Beech sawlogs were down slightly again since the peak reached in October (PLN692/m³). Birch sawlogs in December were also below the peak seen in September (PLN632/m³).

The development in the price of pine and spruce sawlogs was shaped by substantial fluctuation last year. From the basis of the peak in January (PLN563/m³), the pine price fell to PLN380/m³ by August. This was followed by an increase until October (PLN517/m³) and then by another reduction. The spruce price reached its highest level in October (PLN584/m³). By December, the price had fallen by PLN 104 to PLN480/m³.
