At the end of this year, the Metsä Wood wood-products division, which is part of the Finnish Metsä Group will close its further-finishing plant and distribution centre in Kaskinen. Metsä justifies the move with the longer period of unprofitability of the plant despite the introduction of various measures to increase efficiency. Relevant negotiations with employee representatives were started on 19 August and are to be concluded by the end of October. 80 jobs will be affected by the closure, of which 60 will probably be lost completely.
