An agreement was signed last week between Maibec and Fraser Timber for Maibec's purchase of the assets of Fraser Timber’s Masardis Maine lumber mill. The mill employs approximately 145 people and can produce some 125 million bdft of softwood lumber per year, according to information on its website. CNW reports that the mill's lumber is sold to the US market. The transaction is expected to close before the end of the year. Earlier this year, Maibec invested US$20m in upgrading its own softwood lumber mill in St-Pamphile with new high-tech equipment.
