Latvia: 51% of lumber exports go to Great Britain

Following a 40% increase to 374,800 m³ in the second quarter, in the third quarter Latvian exports of rough-sawn and planed softwood lumber to Great Britain rose by 33% to 434,700 m³. In the first quarter, deliveries had risen by 21% to 314,700 m³. As a proportion of total Latvian exports, this constitutes an increase of nine percentage points to 51% (42%). Deliveries to customers in Estonia (+7% to 48,100 m³) and the Netherlands (+17% to 47,900 m³) also exceeded the respective volumes of the previous year. According to the Forest Department of the Latvian Ministry of Agriculture, a total of 844,700 m³ softwood lumber was exported between July and September, representing an increase of 9%.

Accumulated over the first nine months, 2.387m m³ softwood lumber was exported at a value of €784.7m. In terms of volume and value, this represents an increase of 4% and 78% compared to corresponding period in the preceding year respectively.
