Forest fires have so far caused SEK900m damage

According to the National Civil Protection Authority (MSB), around 25,000 hectares of forest had already been destroyed by fire in Sweden by mid-July in 2018. According to calculations by the Swedish Forest Agency (Skogsstyrelsen) forests with a total stock of about 2.6m m³ of logs worth about SEK900m were damaged. However, the amount of damage will be significantly lower, as parts of the topping up stock can still be used as sawlogs or energy wood.

The calculations are based on statistics from the Swedish Farmers' Union Lantbrukarnas ekonomi AB (LRF). According to Skogsstyrelsen, the figures are preliminary and are based on standard calculations based on current data. Further details on the forest fires that have already occurred and on the fires that still exist will be corrected accordingly.
