Canfor cuts production by a further bdft 75m

Canadian Canfor will reduce coniferous timber production at its five sawmills in Houston, Polar, Prince George, Plateau and Fort St. John from early September. According to an announcement published on August 27, the cut in the mills will be suspended next week. At the Plateau and Houston mills, a four-day week will be introduced in September that will last until market and economic conditions allow a return to a normal five-day week. In total, Canfor's measures from September to the end of the year will bring a further 75 million bdft of softwood lumber to the market.

In the first six months of the year, Canfor reduced production of Western SPF lumber by bdft 277.2 million, 15% to bdft 1.559 billion. In total, however, the Group's sawmills produced bdft 2.636 billion of sawn softwood by mid-year, an increase of 3.2 %. The increase was due to the first-time consolidation of the Vi-da plants in Sweden, which produced bdft 358.2 million. At bdft 718.9 million, SYP production at the Canfor sawmills in the southern USA was at the previous year's level.
