Most first-quarter trade fair events called off

22.12.2021 −

Five trade fairs for the wood, supplier, furniture and construction elements industries that were set to happen in the first quarter - IMM Cologne, ZOW in Bad Salzuflen, the Dach+Holz International and the International Hardware Fair in Cologne, and Swissbau in Basel, Switzerland - were postponed to new dates in the spring/summer or cancelled altogether in rapid succession on 9 and 10 December 2021. On 22 November, Deutsche Messe had already pulled the plug on the Domotex flooring trade fair planned for 13 to 16 January in Hanover, after the exhibition area had initially been reduced to the three halls - 11, 12 and 13 - in mid-October. The fair may be held at a later date in 2022.

On 3 December, Messe Frankfurt also cancelled the Heimtextil trade fair, which had actually been planned for 11 to 14 January, shortly before Domotex. The organisers have set 21 to 24 June 2022 as an alternative date; Heimtextil would then be held at the same time as the Techtextil/Texprocess double fair.

Four trade fairs scheduled to take place in Cologne were cancelled within a few hours of each other on 9 December. This decision, which was taken in consultation with the German Furniture Industry Association (VDM) meant that Koelnmesse had to abandon its goal of moving forward with the IMM Cologne furniture fair from 17 to 23 January. According to a statement published on the same day, the worsening pandemic led more exhibitors from Germany and abroad to question their participation.
