Metsä has contracted Pöyry with pre-engineering

03.06.2019 −

Metsä Fibre, a division of the Finnish Metsä Group, has awarded a contract to Pöyry for the pre-engineering of the investment projects announced at the end of April. The pre-engineering includes the expansion and conversion of the existing pulp mill in Kemi into a biorefinery as well as the construction of a pine sawmill on the site of the pulp mill in Rauma. Around €1.5bn will be invested in Kemi for a comprehensive modernization and expansion of the pulp mill and around €0.5bn in Rauma for the sawmill. Metsä does not want to make a final investment decision for Kemi before summer 2020. Whether the 750,000 m³ sawmill will actually be built will be decided at the beginning of 2020.

The pre-engineering for both Kemi and Rauma includes environmental impact assessments and corresponding approval procedures, investment proposals and preliminary contracts with suppliers of key components.
