Housing construction orders up 5.2% in 2020

11.03.2021 −

In December calendar-adjusted incoming orders in the German housing construction sector increased by 5.2%. Over the entire year, orders surpassed the preceding year’s level by 4.3%. This increase, however, only partially compensated for the decline recorded in the commercial and public structural engineering sectors (-8.4%). In the structural engineering sector as a whole, according to the figures published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), orders remained 3.0% short of the preceding year’s figure. Taking into consideration road construction and civil engineering (+2.2%), incoming orders in structural and civil engineering declined by 2.6%.

Nominally, incoming orders in housing construction in December rose by 7.7% to €2.087bn, reaching the highest value ever recorded for the month of December. Over the entire year, housing construction companies recorded incoming orders to a value of €21.048bn, which represents a 7.6% increase.
