Hurricane Laura hits numerous timber industry locations

Hurricane "Laura", which landed in the USA just under an hour ago in the border area between Texas and Louisiana, could also become a problem for the timber industry locations in its expected path. According to Forest Economic Advisors (FEA), the National Hurricane Center's calculated path of the force 4 hurricane in Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas includes 23 sawmills with a combined production capacity of 2.7 billion bdft/year, seven wood-based panel sites with a capacity of 2.6 billion sqft and ten pulp mills with a capacity of 5.5 million t/year. In addition, three industrial pellet plants with a capacity of around 1.5 million tons and the pellet handling terminal on Port Arthur are also located there.

The path along the Texas-Louisiana border also includes extensive forest areas where major storm damage is expected.
