Following a decline in the first quarter (-8%) and an increase in the second (+17%), in the third quarter housing starts in England declined by 3% year-on-year to 45,900 units. According to preliminary figures published by the British ministry of construction, the drop in housing starts in the real estate companies (-5%) and municipalities sectors (-40%) was only partially offset by increases in the building cooperatives sector (+5%). Accumulated over the first nine months, housing starts increased by 2% to 144,910 units.
