In the fourth quarter of 2020, the value of Swedish furniture exports - at SEK5.054bn - stagnated at approximately the same level as the preceding year. According to figures issued by the Swedish statistics authority Statistika Centralbyrån, exports to Norway - the most important purchasing country - declined by 3% to SEK1.442bn. Exports to Germany decreased at a similar rate (-5% to SEK586.8m). Deliveries to Denmark, in contrast, rose by 22% to SEK712.3m (584.7m). Over the entire period of 2020, exports fell 3% short of the preceding year’s figure, at SEK18.419bn. In this connection, deliveries to Finland and France each decreased by 13%, to SEK1.928bn and SEK658.7m respectively. Declines low in the single-digit percentage range were recorded concerning exports to Norway (-4% to SEK5.525bn), Germany (-1% to SEK2.009bn) and Great Britain (-3% to SEK738.7m). By contrast, exports to Denmark increased (+6% to SEK2.495bn).
Furniture imports in the fourth quarter fell just slightly short of the preceding year’s figure, down 1% to SEK5.230bn. Whilst decreases in the double-digit percentage range were recorded concerning imports from Poland (-11% to SEK915.1m) and Estonia (-21% to SEK191.5m), deliveries from China (+9% to SEK1.023bn), Lithuania (+7% to SEK744.7m), Denmark (+5% to SEK496.9m) and Germany (+5% to SEK470.3m) increased. Over the entire year, Swedish furniture imports declined by 2% to SEK20.328bn. Imports from China - the most important supplier country - and from the third-ranked Lithuanian market each stagnated at approximately the same level as the preceding year, at SEK3.964bn and SEK2.745bn respectively.
