Howdens: turnover growth higher than expected

In the first six months, Howden Joinery Group (Howdens) increased its turnover by 68.8% vis à vis the comparative period of the preceding year to almost £785.0m. According to the trading update published on 13 July, this also represents a significant increase of approximately one-fifth compared to 2019. The growth achieved per end of June was thus stronger than the company had originally anticipated. British business - consolidated under Howden Joinery UK depot - also increased by more than two-thirds vis à vis 2020, to around £764.0m. Compared to 2019, the increase amounted to 19.8%. Adjusted to account for the kitchen studios opened since the end of the first half of 2019, turnover rose by 15.3%. Outside Great Britain, Howdens operates a further 28 stores in France and two in Belgium.

For 2021, Howdens is currently forecasting pre-tax profit of around £300m, after a 28.9% drop to £185.3m was recorded last year. The company had partly attributed this decline to increased operating costs.
