23.01.2020 −

Following positive development in all subdivisions in September, turnover of the German furniture industry declined again slightly in most of these areas during the month of October. According to figures of the Federal Statistics Office compiled by the Association of the German furniture industry (VDM), at €1.658bn total turnover was 1.5% below the preceding year’s figure. The 2.4% increase in exports to €553.8m did not compensate the 3.3% decline in domestic turnover to €1.104bn. In October 2018 sector turnover had improved vis à vis the preceding year, in contrast, by 8.7%. During that month domestic business had increased by 10.3%, i.e. almost twice the rate of exports - which improved by 5.4%.
