Netherlands: furniture imports increase by a further 24%

Following an increase of almost 25% in the first half, Dutch furniture imports continued to rise at a similar rate in the third quarter. According to Eurostat, at €1.723bn imports were 24% higher than in the comparative period of the preceding year. The value of furniture imported from China was €510.3m, representing a 43% increase. As a result of this increase, the proportion of Dutch furniture imports attributable to China rose from about one-fourth to almost one-third. Imports from Germany increased by 23% to €342.4m.

Dutch furniture exports rose by 16% to €901.6m. Compared to the previous quarters (Q1: +23%, Q2: +36%), growth has thus slackened off. Increases were recorded in each of the three most important export markets (Germany: +29% to €352.1m, Belgium: +11% to €166.6m, France: +8% to €78.3m).
Accumulated over the first nine months, furniture imports amounted to €5.051bn, corresponding to growth of 24%. The value of furniture exports also rose by 25% to €2.919bn.
