Deceuninck: result affected by business in Turkey

In the first half Belgian PVC and WPC processor Deceuninck was confronted by an 8.5% turnover decline to €312.5m compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year. The company attributes this development primarily to poor business in Turkey. Overall, turnover in the Turkey & emerging markets sales region declined by 28.1% to €77.6m. A number of emerging markets, which include Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, India, Mexico, Thailand and Romania, recorded an improvement in turnover.

This, however, could not offset the declines on the Turkish window and door market, which is covered mainly by subsidiary Ege Profil Ticaret ve Sanayi.

In the other sales regions turnover increases were recorded. In the current half-year report Deceuninck, for the first time, has made no distinction between Western Europe and Central & Eastern Europe. In the merged Europe sales region, which also includes Russia, slight growth to €170.8m was achieved. Great Britain, Poland and Spain experienced particularly positive developments. In France a decline is recorded, and in Germany turnover remained approximately at the same level as last year. In North America an increase of 1.9% to €64.2m was achieved.

Company results also developed along negative lines in the first half of the year. This is also attributed mainly to weak business in Turkey. Pre-tax and net profit actually dropped into the negative zone.
