Metsä Wood to build Estonian plywood plant in Pärnu

14.04.2017 −

Metsä Wood division of Finnish Metsä Group is to build the birch-plywood plant which has been planned for Estonia since mid-2016 in Pärnu, where, according to a notice published on 11 April, the company has acquired a 10-hectare industrial site. This means that an option which had already been agreed in a preliminary contract at the beginning of October 2016 has now been exercised.

The building work, an order for which has been placed with Nordecon, covers, inter alia, a 29,000 m² production hall and an office building; work is to start in April and be completed by August 2018. Nordecon reports that the order is worth roughly €14m. The production lines for the project had already been ordered at the beginning of November 2016 from Finnish Raute at a cost quoted by Metsä Wood at the time of roughly €19m.
