In April turnover generated by German carpentry and timber construction businesses increased by 4.5% vis à vis the comparative quarter of the preceding year. The highest increase rate so far this year was recorded in March (+25.1%). Increases in turnover were also recorded in January (+14.1%) and February (+8.3%). Accumulated over the first four months, according to the figures published on 10 July by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) turnover was up 12.8%. The number of employees had increased by 2.0%.
In the structural engineering sector (-0.5%) turnover in April was just below the previous year’s figure. Over the first four months of 2020, turnover generated by structural engineering companies was up 7.0%. The number of employees remained stable. In the construction industry turnover improved by 8.7% vis à vis the comparative period of 2019 and the number of employees increased by 1.9%.
