Södra pulling out of prefab-home construction

Södra is selling the “Trivselhus” prefabricated-home activities to Svensk Husproduktion. According to a release published on 18 December, all of the Trivselhus activities are to be transferred to Svensk Husproduktion on 1 March. No details have been given relating to the purchase price. The divestment means the group will be concentrating on its core fields of forest industry, pulp, sawnwood, energy, and value-adding in future.

According to the figures published in the business reports for the first three quarters of 2020, Trivselhus’ operating loss for the nine-month period amounted to SEK33m. A total of 196 homes had been delivered by the end of September. The state of the market had necessitated dismissals at Trivselhus in the first quarter. Södra had already reacted to the unsatisfactory earnings position in 2019 by concentrating its prefabricated-home activities on the Landsbro works.
