CLT works in Sokol to start operation two months early

21.11.2019 −

According to information from the superordinate Segezha, the construction of the cross-laminated timber (CLT) works in Sokol, Vologda oblast, in northwest Russia is right on schedule. As the refurbishment of an existing production hall had already begun on the premises of Sokol Timber Company at the end of July, the invitation for the submission of tenders for laying the foundations for the production facilities is now out. The work is scheduled to have reached a point by the end of this year that will enable installation of the press, the finger-jointing line, and other components from Ledinek Engineering to begin from March. The first CLT panel is to be produced in September 2020, two months earlier than previously planned. The switch to normal production is then to take place in late 2020/early 2021.

The works, with an annual production capacity of 35,000 m³ and trading under the name of Sokol CLT, will be the first CLT works in Russia. In future, CLT will be able to be produced in lengths of up to 16.5 m, widths up to 4 m, and in thicknesses from 6-50 cm on the facilities installed at Sokol CLT. Segezha Group and the property company Etalon Group agreed to examine CLT for its resistance to fire and load-bearing capacity.
