02.11.2020 −

In July turnover generated by carpentry and timber construction businesses in Germany increased by 6.2% vis à vis the comparative quarter of the preceding year. Turnover growth recorded in previous months consequently continued. The most significant increase rate was recorded in March (+25.1%). May was the only month in which turnover stagnated at the same level as in 2019. According to figures published on 9 October by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) turnover accumulated over the first seven months increased by 9.4% vis à vis the comparative period of last year, and the number of employees by 1.8%.

In July, timber construction companies achieved the highest turnover growth of all branches in the construction industry. Higher turnover than last year was also recorded by companies involved in underground duct construction and construction of sewage plants. All other branches were faced with turnover declines. The losses in July were offset by increases recorded in the preceding months.

In the structural engineering sector, the preceding year's figure was surpassed by 4.0% in the first seven months whilst the number of employees remained stable. In the construction industry turnover increased by 8.9% and the number of employees by 1.5%.
