British pallet industry produces 42.5m pallets

In Great Britain 42.5m new pallets were produced and 41.4m pallets were repaired in 2016. Compared to the preceding year, production of new pallets remained virtually stable whilst the number of repaired pallets increased by more than 6%.

According to a market survey conducted by John Clegg Consulting on behalf of Timber Packaging & Pallet Confederation (Timcon) and state-run Forestry Commission, which was publicised at a Timcon conference in Manchester on 14 March, approximately 29.8m new pallets were produced and 28.8m pallets repaired by Timcon member companies. In terms of the entire British production of new as well as used pallets, Timcon companies accounted for a proportion of 70% in each category in 2016, reflecting no change vis à vis the preceding year.
