USA: softwood plywood imports down again in Q4

In the fourth quarter US softwood plywood imports decreased by 15% to 424,767m³, according to the US Department of Agriculture, Foreign Agriculture Service (FAS). Of the relevant supplier countries, the only country to surpass the preceding year’s figure was Chile (+32% to 111,973m³). For imports from China (-46% to 68,611m³), Brazil (-17% to 147,692m³) and Canada (-16% to 80,571m³), in contrast, decreases in the double-digit range were recorded.

In the preceding quarters all four countries, with double-digit rates of increase in each case, had contributed to the significant rise in softwood plywood imports vis à vis the previous year’s figures (Q1: +109%, Q2: +59%, Q3: +65%).
