Raute: Order intake again at previous year's level

05.11.2018 −

The Finnish machinery and plant manufacturer Raute received orders worth a total of €42mi in the third quarter. Of this amount, €27m related to new plants and €15m to Technology Services. Despite a lack of major orders, the previous year's level was reached again. In the third quarter of 2017, the largest single order, €11m, was for the veneer laying line ordered by US-based wood materials manufacturer Roseburg Forest Products for the new LVL plant in Chester/South Carolina. Compared with the second quarter, in which no major orders were concluded either, order intake increased by half.

The Technology Services unit's share of total order intake increased to 36% in the third quarter compared with the prior-year period. However, Raute CEO Tapani Kiiski sees the decline observed over the entire nine-month period as an indication that customers in the plywood and LVL industries are currently more inclined to invest in new plants. According to Raute, however, the negotiations on complete plants conducted in this context are progressing only slowly.

The order backlog at the end of the quarter amounted to €121m, exceeding the previous year's level by around a third. Compared with the end of June, however, it declined by €6m. By processing existing orders, Raute generated record sales of €47.9m in the third quarter. According to the quarterly report published on Wednesday, earnings figures also improved significantly. Operating profit and pre-tax profit each rose by more than a third year-on-year to €5.6m and €5.5m, respectively. Net income increased by 28% to €4.3m.
