Metsä Wood examining LVL investment in Punkaharju

In addition to the replacement investment project concluded in Lohja in the third quarter, the “Metsä Wood” division of the Metsä Group is examining the option of setting up a new production line for the LVL marketed under the name of “Kerto” at the Punkaharju facility. The company is currently conducting negotiations with the local authorities and the employee representative committee at the Punkaharju works on the framework conditions for the project involving an investment of around 52m €. Metsä Wood intends to take a final deci-sion on the investment before the end of this year.

According to the current planning, the new production line is to be geared to an annual capacity of around 65,000 m³. The log requirement is being quoted as approximately 160,000 m³ per year. Roughly 35 employees will be required for operating the plant. If the decision turns out in favour of the project, the new plant is to be put into service during the course of the first half-year 2019.
