LP: turnover growth from OSB slows down

In the third quarter, US Louisiana-Pacificsold a total volume of 952m sqft (basis 3/8”) OSB in North America, corresponding to growth of 2% vis à vis the comparative period of the preceding year. Deliveries of the higher-quality OSB ranges consolidated under the structural solutions subdivision increased by 3% to 419m sqft. In the commodity subdivision, the sales volume of 533m sqft was just slightly above the comparative value; this had also been the case in the second quarter. Taking into consideration the higher average prices (structural solutions: +82%, commodity: +43%), total turnover of the OSB business division rose by 63% to US$600m.

In its business report, Louisiana-Pacific stated that the effect on turnover resulting from higher prices amounted to +US$279m. In the second quarter, higher prices had contributed to the increase in turnover to an even greater extent (+US$554m). Thus, turnover in the current reporting period fell 23% short of the US$773m generated in the second quarter. Should the presently observed average prices persist until the end of the year, Louisiana-Pacific anticipates an even stronger turnover decline for the current quarter of around 30% compared to the previous quarter.
