Another sharp decline in OSB production in Germany

In the first quarter of 2026, German OSB production declined by 8.2% year-on-year to 297,898 m³ (Jan.-March 2025: 324,470 m³). This significant decline is partly attributable to a base effect in connection with the high prior-year figure. In the two preceding quarters, much less severe declines had been recorded. Even in the third quarter (-3.5% to 297,898 m³), however, the actual production volume had been more or less the same. The production volume in the fourth quarter (-4.1% to 289,419 m³) was considerably lower due to a production stoppage at Egger Holzwerkstoffe Wismar GmbH & Co. KG in connection with conversion work.

The production value, by contrast, continued to rise in the first quarter despite the further decreases in terms of volumes. The increase of 3.4% to €99.0m (95.7m) was comparable to that recorded in the third quarter (+2.5% to €93.9m). In the fourth quarter, starting from a low comparative figure, double-digit growth of 10.8% to €93.4m was recorded.
