MTC now also produces nonwoven papers on PM 6

11.02.2019 −

The joint venture OOO Mayak-Technocell (MTC) also started production of coated nonwoven papers for the wallpaper industry during the fourth quarter on the newly constructed PM 6 in Penza/Russia. The subsequent qualification phase has now been completed for three wallpaper customers and is still ongoing for a fourth. The 2.30 m wide paper machine, designed for a production speed of up to 850 m/min, was commissioned with decor paper in the course of the third quarter; decor paper production was subsequently qualified relatively quickly at the Russian sites of the three Central European printers.

Following the expansion to non-woven papers, PM 6 is now running in alternating operation as planned. About three weeks of décor paper production are usually followed by three weeks of non-woven production. In the current year, PM 6 is expected to produce around 9,000 t of decor paper and 9,000 t of non-woven paper. MTC intends to use these quantities primarily to compete against imports. According to MTC, around 50 % of the Russian decor paper requirement has so far been imported; there have been no Russian producers of coated wallpaper non-wovens.
