Glatfelter shedding 100 jobs in Gernsbach

P.H. Glatfelter has announced that its Composite Fibers division will stop making metallised paper in Gernsbach, Germany. These products will be manufactured only at its UK plant in Caerphilly, Wales, which has been part of Glatfelter since the November 2007 acquisition of Metallised Products (MPL). In addition to transferring production, Glatfelter also intends to cut jobs in other production areas, logistics and administration. Identical local media reports suggest that about 100 of 650 positions in Gernsbach will be eliminated.

The company is taking these actions in response to dwindling demand in a number of sales areas, which had already resulted in production curtailments and short work during the past year.
