Cooperation between Viken AT Market and Sapin

14.01.2021 −

Norwegian Viken AT Market and Belgian Sapin want to work more closely together in trade with roundwood and woodchips in future. This was reported by the two companies on 7 December. The purpose of the cooperation is to streamline and increase sales of Norwegian timber in central Europe. Viken AT Market and Sapin want to sell roundwood and woodchips in the Benelux countries, west and southwest Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, and in the UK. To achieve this, Sapin will be contributing its existing contacts to pulp and paper mills, the sawmilling industry, and to wood-fired cogeneration plants. The reason Viken AT Market’s CEO, Håkon H. Myhra, gives for the alliance is an anticipated shortage of sawn softwood particularly in central Europe in the years ahead. Myhra is expecting the bark-beetle calamity to lead to a reduction in the supply of spruce roundwood and to sharp growth in interest in softwood-log imports, which can be catered to from places such as Norway.
