German pellet output increased in 2019 by 20 %

German pellet works’ output in the fourth quarter of 2019 was 19.7 % higher than a year earlier at 752,000 t. The output was another 12,000 t or 1.6 % higher than in the third quarter. Surveys performed by the German fuelwood and pellet association DEPV show that new production records were achieved in each of the four quarters. The proportion of the total output accounted for by A1 pellets in the fourth quarter showed only little change against the previous year at 97.4 %. The bulk of the intake of raw materials comprised softwoods with a share of 97.5 %.

In 2019 as a whole, the German output of pellets rose by 16.4 % against 2018 to a new record level of 2.821m t. The share of the total accounted for bagged pellets in 2016 rose by another two percentage points to an average of 24.1 %.
