Dorel plans to expand European business via Alphason

The Canadian conglomerate Dorel Industries has taken over the business operations and assets of the British furniture manufacturer Alphason. According to Dorel Industries, Alphason is to be integrated into the "Dorel Home" division in future. Details of the transaction were not published. According to Dorel Industries, the takeover will provide the company with a new distribution base for its growing European business. Alphason develops and sells home office and entertainment furniture. The products are distributed via various stationary and online dealers in Great Britain and Ireland.

Dorel Industries markets children's products, bicycles and furniture through its three business segments Dorel Juvenile, Dorel Sports and Dorel Home. The Group includes the children's equipment brand "MaxiCosi" and the bicycle brand "Cannondale".

Last year, the Dorel Home division accounted for 31 % of Group sales in the amount of US$2.6bn. The division, which comprises the production and import of furniture and mattresses, has four Group companies: Ameriwood, Dorel Home Products, Cosco Home & Office and Dorel Living. According to Dorel Industries, Ameriwood is the second largest manufacturer of ready-to-assemble furniture in North America with production and sales facilities in Tiffin/Ohio, Savannah/Georgia, Dowagiac/Michigan and Cornwall/Ontario. Dorel Home Products (DHP) produces futon beds and baby mattresses. Ameriwood and DHP also each have their own import division. Cosco Home & Office primarily sells outdoor furniture, step stools and ladders. Dorel Living imports upholstered and box furniture from Asia. In total, Dorel Industries employs around 10,000 people in 25 countries.
