Swedish softwood sawlogs stocks 43% higher

06.03.2015 −

The Swedish sawmilling industry had stocks of softwood sawlogs totalling some 3.3m m³ on 31 December 2014, roughly 43% more than at the same time a year earlier. The results of surveys carried out by the Swedish Forest Agency show that the stocks in the works in the regions of Västra Götaland, Örebro, and Värmland have by far the highest rate of growth at roughly +60% above the previous year. According to information from Skogsstyrelsen, log stocks are also higher than last year at all of the sawmills in the northern and southern regions. The main reason for this is said to be the volumes of storm-damaged wood that have arisen there and have already been partly cleared away.
