Russian lumber output up slightly

30.04.2015 −

Russian sawmills raised their lumber output in the first quarter of 2015 by 3.1% against the same quarter of last year to approximately 5m m³. According to information from the Russian statistics office Rosstat, the output in each of the first three months of this year was higher than in the same months of last year. Rosstat recorded growth of 3.8% to 1.5m m³ from January. Output rose by 2.9% in February to roughly 1.7m m³ and by 2.3% in March to 1.8m m³. The actual output is higher, however, because Rosstat does not take into account the data of smaller-scale sawmills. Most companies were able to increase their cutting performance in the first quarter due to the higher supply of logs.
