USA plans to increase duties on softwood lumber

04.06.2021 −

According to the second administrative review (AR2) published by the U.S. Department of Commerce on 21 May, the USA is planning to implement a further increase on anti-dumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD) relating to deliveries from Canada. After these had been lowered from an average of 20.23% to 8.99% at the end of November 2020, the AR2 now provides for a rise to 18.32% again.

Separate duty rates apply to companies directly affected by AR2. This includes 11.38% for West Fraser Timber and 21.04% for Canfor, as well as 30.22% for Resolute Forest Products and 15.82% for J. D. Irving. All duty rates of AR2 are provisional and will not come into force until published in the US Federal Register; publication is scheduled for 24 November.
