US producers seek another anti-dumping investigation

24.01.2020 −

On 8 January, the Coalition of American Millwork Producers (CAMP), an alliance created for this purpose, filed a petition with the US Department of Commerce (DoC) and the International Trade Commission (ITC) for an antidumping/countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigation into imports of mouldings and millwork from China and Brazil. The suit was submitted by the law firm Wiley Rein LLP, which already represents the American Kitchen Cabinet Alliance (AKCA) in an AD/CVD investigation under way since early March 2019 into kitchen furniture and furniture part imports from China.

This new case relates to mouldings, profile and building parts made out of solid wood, gluelam timber or wood-based panels for use in interior and exterior areas, which were imported into the US under a total of 18 HTSUS foreign trade numbers. The affected products can be varnished or coated; this processing can also take place in a third country. Products and product groups already affected by ongoing AD/CVD investigations are excluded. The total volume of the US market for the products affected by this investigation is estimated to have been in the region of $1.3bn in 2018, according to CAMP.
