Tarkett: Increase in Q4 only due to special effects

20.02.2019 −

Turnover of Tarkett increased by 3.9% to €678.8m in the fourth quarter of 2018. This growth, however, was achieved exclusively by means of special effects. Organic turnover, which is unadjusted for currency as well as acquisition effects, was 1.3% below the preceding year’s figure.

The takeover of US carpet manufacturer Lexmark Carpet Mills, which was completed on 01 October 2018, contributed the largest proportion to the turnover increase in the fourth quarter. Lexmark has been consolidated in Tarkett’s North America division, in which turnover has accordingly increased by 15.3% to €199.3m compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year. Organic turnover in this business division, in contrast, decreased by 2.2.% which the company mainly attributes to lower sales volumes as a consequence of production problems. In the EMEA division quarterly turnover increased slightly to €218.9m, and an organic turnover growth rate of 1.9% was achieved. In this connection Tarkett emphasises the positive development in central Europe and Germany.

In the period covered by the report the sports division increased by 10.0% to €107.3m. This increase is also predominantly attributed to special effects such as the takeover of Australian Grass Manufacturers at the end of January 2018. Organic turnover of the sports business division, at +0.5%, was only slightly higher than the preceding year’s figure. Quarterly turnover in the CIS, APAC, Latin America division declined by 7.2% to €153.4m; in organic terms the group was confronted by a -5.5 % decrease in this region.
