Sweden: Softwood lumber exports in March 4.5% above 2010

Swedish softwood lumber and planed product exports in March 2011 were 4.5% higher than in the same month of last year at 1.094m m³. A reduction of 6.5% to 201,500 in exports to buyers in Africa was compensated for by growth of 7.4% in exports to buyers in Europe to 807,700 m³ and by growth of 43.4% in exports to Asia to a figure of 166,300 m³. In Africa, no more exports of lumber or planed-products to Libya were registered in March 2011 whereas deliveries to Egypt were able to be raised to 88,600 m³ in the same month following the end of the political upheaval there. In Asia, the extensive deliveries to Japan remained unabated in March. At 85,300 m³, deliveries to Japanese buyers were roughly 54% higher than in the same month of last year.
