Stora Enso Wood Products’ sales boosted by 4.2 %

12.02.2021 −

Including external deliveries, the “Wood Products” division of Stora Enso sold a total of 1.244m m³ of wood products in the fourth quarter; this equates to an increase of 4.2 % against a year earlier, and +16.1 % against the rather poor third quarter. Deliveries exclusively from the companies’ own works amounted to 1.155m m³, which equates to a minor increase of 0.5 %.

In spite of the higher sales figures, the division’s sales revenue fell by 3.7 % to €360m. According to information from the group, the closure of the Kitee spruce sawmill at the end of 2019, the transferral of the Uimahaju sawmill to the “Biomaterials” division completed at the beginning of 2020, and the sale of the finger-jointed carcassing (KVH) production operations in Pfarrkirchen in January 2020 all had a negative impact on sales revenue to the tune of roughly €23m. Only just under half of this was compensated for by higher prices.

Higher prices combined with lower fixed costs led to marked improvements in the key performance figures. EBITDA and EBIT were raised by 69.2 % and 135.7 %, respectively, to €44m and €33m. The return on operating capital in the period under review was 23.5 %, exceeding the internal target of 20 %.
