SCA Wood can increase EBITDA margin to 14.5 %

04.02.2019 −

The "Wood" division within the Swedish Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) benefited in the fourth quarter from higher sales prices than in the previous year and favourable exchange rates. This more than compensated for the 2% decline in the volume of sawn timber and wood products sold to around 590,000 m³.

According to SCA's quarterly and annual reports presented yesterday, the division increased sales by 9 % to SEK 1.558bn in the fourth quarter. EBITDA increased by 23% to SEK 226m and the operating result of SEK 170m was approximately one-third higher than in the same quarter last year. The EBITDA margin thus improved by almost two percentage points to 14.5 %.

Sales generated in the Wood segment in 2018 as a whole totaled SEK 6.618bn, an increase of 10%. EBITDA and operating profit improved to SEK 904m and SEK 685m, respectively, representing growth rates of 35 % and 55 % respectively compared with 2017. On the other hand, the volume of timber sold, at 2.250m m³, was down around 2 % on the previous year.
