Sales and earnings decline at Mercer Timber

In the first quarter, the "Wood Products" business unit of Mercer International increased its sawnwood production by 8% to 110.7m bdft, but the sales volume and average sales price of 109.2m bdft and bdft 359 US$/1,000 respectively were 5% and 14% below the previous year's figures.

According to the annual report published on 3 May, the division's quarterly sales decreased 17% to US$44.4m. Of this amount, US$39.2m related to sawn timber sales (-19%), US$2.7m to energy sales (-4%) and US$2.6m to marketing of sawmill residues (-4%).

Despite a decrease in roundwood procurement costs of approximately 21% compared to the previous year, Wood Products' operating income decreased to US$1.62m, a decrease of 17.3% compared to the previous year.
